Going Green
At Heartland Photography, we believe our environment is a valuable resource, and do our part to protect it.
As a studio, we embrace green practices as listed below:
- Residential studios. By running our business office in our homes, we eliminate the need to drive to our offices, as well as heat additional spaces.
- Recycling. The recycling basket in Karen's office is 2x as large as the wastebasket, which means more recycling! We recycle every possible piece of paper and cardboard, as well as any plastics.
- Recycling packaging materials. Another component of recycling is packaging materials. When our lab sends protective plastic bubbles, we re-use them in our own shipping.
- Online contracts/correspondence. By handling the bulk of our business online, we eliminate the need for excess paper.
- Printing. When we print wedding day schedules, we print double-sided.
- Online proofing. We offer exclusively online proofing, which eliminates unnecessary paper proofs.
- Water conservation. In our Salina office, Karen made rain barrels to collect water and water the plants. It eliminates the need to turn on the tap to grow a garden or water houseplants. (For anyone who wants to geek out about water conservation or see Karen's stellar compost pile, drop her a line!).
- Recycled products. We offer an album made from recycled products. That product also donates additional money to offset the carbon footprint.
