Karen (Mikols) Bonar

At heart, I'm just a big kid.

How does this help a photographer capture your memories?

Well, since I know Santa and the Tooth Fairy are real, I enjoy having animated conversations with any 5-year-old who will talk about it.

I've also been known to talk with bigger kids (or even some adults!) about my Harry Potter obsession (Quidditch, anyone?).

But the biggest giveaway to my free-spirited approach to both lfe and photography is my socks. Yes, socks. Some people have feet obsessions. Others are shoe horses. Me? I'm a sock junkie. Poka dots, stripes, argyle, blue, green, you name it, I love it. But I am a bit more "creative" with matching my "pairs" of socks. You see, in my book, a blue sock with a scarf-wearing flamengo goes perfectly with a white sock with pink and blue snowflakes. The theme and colors are perfectly matched ... even if the patterns are not a perfect pair.

After spending nearly a decade in the field of journalism, I was published in four books (including "America 24/7" and "Kansas 24/7"). I also had the honor of being one of the participants in the elite Eddie Adams workshop in 2002. During that workshop, the students produced a book called "We love NY" to visually chronicle the vibrancy of New Yorkers on the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 tragedy.

Here in the Salina office, my "office manager" is my tortie-calico kitty, Esse. If you call and talk to the answering machine, be assured she is sitting next to it, listening and taking notes. ;)
