Karen (Mikols) Bonar

Yellow ... was the color of my first camera. It was a gift from my parents for my 10th birthday. During the first day in the field (Girl Scout camp), I used the entire roll of 36 exposure film. I suspect at that point, my parents knew they had a shutterbug on their hands.

Unmatched ... is the best word to describe my socks. And I like to think it's part of my charm (I prefer to call them "creatively coordinated" because the colors and themes always go together, even if the patterns do not).

Fanatical ... can be the only way to describe how I feel about the Harry Potter series and why I snuggled in bed for 13 hours with the phone off the hook to read the last installment.

Spontaneous ... is how I describe my approach to photography. I spent nearly a decade in the field of journalism and was published in most newspapers in the state of Kansas. During that time, I was published in four books (including "America 24/7" and "Kansas 24/7"). I also had the honor of being one of the participants in the elite Eddie Adams workshop in 2002. During that workshop, the students produced a book called "We love NY" to visually chronicle the vibrancy of New Yorkers on the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 tragedy.

Pope John Paul II ... is the most well-known world leader I've photographed -- two times.

Ornery ... is the best way to describe my tortise calico cat, Esse (Esperanza del Gato), AKA "Booger." She is also the "office manager" in my Salina office. :)

Amazing ... is the ONLY way to describe my husband, Erik. We celebrated a beautiful fall 2008 wedding! (Mike did a SPECTACULAR job photographing it!)
